Concrete – The Most Versatile Material for Your Home Interior

Concrete is one of the most versatile materials used in buildings. Almost all houses in New York use concrete as the base building material. It is highly durable, fire-resistant, can be molded to any shape, has heat-retaining capacity and has a robust look. Structures made of concrete such as pillars, walls, fixed flower pots and sculptures have limitless design possibilities.
Concrete works are touted to be highly durable and strong, but with regular usage and exposure, concrete can undergo attrition e.g. – concrete walls, curbs, foundations and driveways built a long time ago. Such structures need the workmanship of residential concrete repair contractors for their repair and restoration.

Below, we’ll see the areas where concrete is used in homes, the common damages and the recommended repairs:

  • Floors: Concrete is the first choice of builders for laying of floors as it can bear a substantial amount of load. It is also easier to lay than other flooring materials. Floor coverings such as tiles and marble can be installed on top of concrete floors.
Damage and Repair: Cracks and surface roughening are the common damages to concrete floors. They can be repaired by resurfacing the affected areas with a fresh concrete mix.
  • Kitchen sinks and benchtops: While there are a variety of materials for making benchtops, with stainless steel being the preferred choice for sinks, concrete has found its way into these areas, thanks to its ability to mold into any shape and its chemical resistance. Benchtops and sinks made of concrete are much stronger, are water-resistant and easier to clean.Damage and Repair: Poor grade concrete can chip off benchtop edges and trap water from sinks, which weaken it from inside. If such is the case, a residential concrete repair contractor has to remove the affected concrete in its entirety and replace it with a concrete mix of better grade.
  • Bathroom walls and tubs: Let’s accept it, a bathroom looks much more elegant when it has polished surfaces all around it. But such surfaces need regular cleaning, and are expensive. Concrete can be used as an alternate material for your bathroom walls and bathtubs.Damage and Repair: As with concrete in kitchen, poor grade material causes water to seep in and weaken it. Therefore, it is necessary to check for signs of damage from time to time and repair any damage as soon as possible.
  • Fireplace: Did we say concrete is fire-resistant and traps heat? That makes it the perfect material for making fireplaces.Damage and Repair: Any damage is likely to be a result of excessive heat in the fireplace. Such damage can be repaired by replacing the affected area with fresh concrete and coating it with fire-proof resins if necessary.

It is not possible to repair such concrete damages without professional help. Call Tony’s Masonry at (718) 356-4437 for all kinds of concrete repair work in New York.
